Meet the 2026 CAME Awards winners. We’re celebrating TMU’s stellar faculty and learners showcasing leadership and instrumental innovation across the academic sphere.

The Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME) Awards (external link)  recognize excellence in medical education across Canada—celebrating both learners and faculty who are advancing teaching, learning, mentorship and academic leadership. Congratulations to all the winners from the TMU School of Medicine!

Faculty Certificate of Merit Awards

The Certificate of Merit Awards recognize senior faculty who have made exceptional, sustained contributions to medical education over the course of their academic careers—through leadership, teaching excellence, mentorship, and innovations that have strengthened learners and programs.

Our faculty Certificate of Merit award winners:

Dr. Rebecca Brown: Dr. Brown has demonstrated exceptional leadership in developing and directing the Certificate of Added Competence in Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM) residency program at TMU. She has approached her role with a clear vision of establishing a high-quality, academically rigorous program that would match the standards of any long-standing institution.

Dr. K Haider

 

Dr. Kamil Haider: Throughout the foundational phase of the School of Medicine, Dr. Haider has demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic foresight, and an unwavering commitment to building a robust and accreditation-ready clinical faculty framework.

 

Dr. Jim Sugiyama: Dr. Sugiyama has had a remarkable impact on our undergraduate learning through the way he leads our Case Based Learning (CBL) group. He brings genuine warmth, patience, and curiosity to every session, creating a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, thinking out loud, and learning from each other.

Rising Star Awards

The Rising Star Awards recognize learners who are making an early and meaningful impact in medical education. This includes contributions such as education research, curriculum or workshop development, leadership, advocacy, or teaching innovation—work that strengthens the health professions education community at TMU and beyond.

Resident Rising Star award winner:

Dr. Christopher Haddad (Family Medicine PGY1): Dr. Haddad has demonstrated outstanding commitment to research and academic dissemination as a first-year resident, contributing meaningfully to the emerging scholarly culture of the TMU School of Medicine and its partner sites.

MD Student Rising Star award winner:

Haris Ahmad: Haris Ahmad is Co-President of the Founding Committee of the Inaugural Medical Student Council (MSC) at the TMU School of Medicine. He accepted the award on behalf of the constitution-drafting group of over 65 first-year medical students who established the MSC’s foundational structures, with particular recognition of Anam Biabani, Lianna Mathew, Devon McAlpine, Aisha Ahmad, Regan Bucciol, Lin Wang, Alina Zaidi, Ladees Al Hafi, and Bianka Ketheeswaranathan. Within days of starting medical school, this group demonstrated exceptional leadership by developing a representative system that now serves all medical students at the school.
